A week: Borgo Pace as a base to visit Central Italy

The privileged location of Borgo Pace makes it an excellent basis for a tour in Central Italy. Here we suggest some art itineraries less than 200 km from Borgo Pace, which you can  reach in one day.

Florence and Arezzo:

Florence, cradle of the Renaissance, is only 150 km away: in one day you can appreciate the Tuscan beauties famous in the world, from Ponte Vecchio to the Uffizi, from the Baptistery to the Duomo. Another fascinating destination in Tuscany, is Arezzo, where you can start a journey looking for one of the greatest Renaissance artists, Piero della Francesca. The Cathedral of Arezzo, on the top of the hill where the city stands, has vaulted painted ceilings and houses a 15th-century fresco by Piero della Francesca, while other ones are  in the chapel of the nearby Basilica of San Francesco.

Monterchi and Sansepolcro: following the paintings by Piero della Francesca, you can plan an itinerary between Monterchi, where you can admire the” Madonna del Parto” and Sansepolcro, the birthplace of the artist and the keeper of “La Resurrezione”. Here the visit is not only artistic: Sansepolcro is a beautiful village marked by history and it is also the perfect opportunity to taste Tuscan food and wine specialties.

Urbino: to complete the itinerary dedicated to Piero della Francesca, a visit to Urbino is a must, just over half an hour from Borgo Pace, the painter lived there at the court of Federico da Montefeltro. For art lovers, the National Gallery of the Marche is an event not to be missed. A visit to the oratories of Urbino is also a must, small art treasures witness of a glorious past.

Assisi and Gubbio: the municipal territory of Borgo Pace also borders directly with Umbria, in less than an hour it is possible to reach Gubbio, where you can visit the Palazzo dei Consoli, dating back to 1321, built to be the political and historical center of the city. Among the curiosities of Gubbio it is impossible not to mention the Driver's License, obtainable by completing three laps running around the Fontana dei Matti. And when you are in Gubbio, a stop in the nearby Assisi is a must, there you can visit the places of San Francesco, in a mix of spirituality, landscape and architectural beauties you can not miss.
